David in Dubai
07.04.08
Gilimbaa's Creative Director David Williams travelled to the United Arab Emirates at the end of March to participate in a cultural exchange program at the invitation of the UAE Ambassador to Australia, Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al-Shamsi
Members of the Dare To Lead program, and staff and students from Djarragun College and David made up the delegation to showcase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers were shakin' a leg and sharing their stories to various audiences over eight nights in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
"It was a great opportunity to share my knowledge of Aboriginal culture and perform for the people of the Emirates", David said.
Six students were selected from Djarragun College to make up the contingent of entertainers, performing at various schools, shopping centres and for governement officials and ministers.
"It's been fantastic watching the six students grow over the week long trip. These experiences and memories are going to stay with them forever", David said.
The trip to the UAE was a great opportunity to network with Emirates officials and other members of the delegation, and to tell them about Gilimbaa, the work we do and the services we provide.
